Key Highlights

Enrolment at a Glance: Key Rules

100% Free of Cost Application forms, biometric capture, and initial enrolment are completely free by government law.
Enrol Only Once for Life Every resident gets one UID. Central de-duplication automatically detects and rejects duplicate applications.
182-Day Residency Rule Must reside in India for 182+ days in the preceding 12 months. NRIs holding Indian Passports are exempt.
3 Alternative Enrolment Modes Document-based, Head of Family (HoF) based, or Introducer-based if you lack documents in your own name.
Strict Prohibition: Do NOT Apply for a Second Aadhaar! If you have ever enrolled before or suspect an Aadhaar was issued in childhood, do not submit a new enrolment packet — it will be flagged as a duplicate and rejected. Instead, recover your existing number using Lost EID/UID Online Recovery.

1. Who Can Enrol for Aadhaar?

2. The Three Official Modes of Enrolment

Three official paths to enrol based on document availability:

Most Common

1. Document Based

For residents possessing valid individual proof documents in their own name. Requires Proof of Identity (PoI) with photo, Proof of Address (PoA), and Date of Birth (DoB) proof from the Acceptable Documents List.

For Family

2. Head of Family (HoF)

For family members (spouse, children, parents) lacking individual address proofs. Requires the HoF's active Aadhaar, valid Proof of Relationship (PoR), and live biometric authentication by the HoF at the centre.

No Documents

3. Introducer Based

For homeless or destitute residents without documents. An authorized, registrar-appointed Introducer (elected local representative, postman, teacher, anganwadi/asha worker, or doctor) authenticates the applicant with their biometrics.

3. Child & Infant Enrolment (Baal Aadhaar)

Children can be enrolled from birth. The capture requirements adapt based on developmental maturity:

4. Enrolment with Biometric Exceptions

Residents unable to provide standard biometrics are covered by official exception handling:

5. What to Carry to the Enrolment Centre

Carry original documents. Operators scan and return them immediately—no photocopies needed:

6. Where to Enrol: ASK vs Registrar Centres

7. At the Enrolment Centre: 4 Sequential Steps

1

Fill the Enrolment Form

Download and print the form beforehand from our Forms Portal or pick it up at the centre counter. Forms are 100% Free

2

Check Both Languages on Dual Screen

Aadhaar stores data in English + your chosen Regional Language (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bangla, Odia, Assamese). Carefully review spellings on the resident screen before the operator submits.

3

Capture Biometrics & Scan Documents

Live facial photograph, all 10 fingerprints on optical scanners, and dual iris scan. Original documents are scanned and handed right back to you.

4

Collect Acknowledgement Slip with 28-Digit EID

Review the printed slip, sign the verification acknowledgement, and safely preserve the original slip containing your 14-digit enrolment number and 14-digit timestamp.

8. Understanding Your 28-Digit Enrolment ID (EID)

The top section of your enrolment slip features a 14-digit enrolment number and a 14-digit timestamp in dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss format. Combined together, they form your 28-digit EID used for status tracking and downloading e-Aadhaar.

Check Accepted Documents Before Visiting

Enrolment requires valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA). Check the complete official list of eligible documents to prevent application rejection.
