Frequently Asked Questions
Direct, plain-language answers to resolve the most common blockers residents face during Aadhaar enrolment, downloads, and demographic updates.
Top Solutions to Common Blockers
1. Application Status & Rejections
How do I check my enrolment or update status online?
Visit myAadhaar Check Status and enter your 14-digit SRN (for online updates) or 28-digit EID (from your enrolment slip).
My update request shows "Rejected". What should I do next?
Check the rejection reason in your portal. Most rejections are caused by blurry document scans, name spelling mismatches, or invalid proofs. Upload a clear, high-resolution original document and re-submit.
How long does it take for Aadhaar to generate or update?
Online address updates take 48 hours to 15 days. In-person biometric updates and new enrolments take 7 to 30 days.
2. OTP, Mobile Number & Login Issues
Why am I not receiving the Aadhaar OTP on my phone?
Ensure your SIM is active and matches the number linked to your Aadhaar. If your registered phone is deactivated or lost, you must visit an Aadhaar Kendra in person to link your new SIM.
Can I link or update my mobile number online from home?
No. Mobile number updates strictly require in-person biometric authentication at an authorized Aadhaar Kendra or post office.
3. Name, Address & Biometrics
My name spelling in Aadhaar does not match my PAN card or bank account.
Update your name on myAadhaar or at an Aadhaar Kendra with valid ID proof (Passport, PAN, Voter ID). Name corrections are allowed a maximum of twice in a lifetime.
Fingerprint authentication fails at the ration shop or bank branch.
First confirm on myAadhaar that your biometrics are not locked. If failures continue, visit an Aadhaar Kendra for a Biometric Update (₹125) to refresh your fingerprints.
4. Lost Cards & Accepted Copies
I lost my physical Aadhaar card. Do I need to re-enrol?
Never re-enrol. Simply download a free e-Aadhaar PDF from myAadhaar, or order an official durable PVC Card (₹75) delivered to your home.
Is a downloaded e-Aadhaar or printed paper equally valid as an original letter?
Yes, 100% valid. Under Section 4(3) of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, an e-Aadhaar PDF has identical legal standing as the original printed letter.
5. Official Grievances & Helpline
If your grievance remains unresolved or an enrolment operator demands illegal extra fees, call 1947 (toll-free) or email help@uidai.gov.in with your operator ID, centre address, and enrolment slip.
